FEIST
Listen to "1234"
Singer Leslie Feist began her career in music as a teenager punk rock player in the city of Calgary, Alberta, Canada. In her twenties, FEIST broke free from her roles of indie rock guitarist and performance artist sidekick to create her own sound, the culmination of which is her latest (and universally lauded) album, The Reminder. Canada's national entertainment magazine Exclaim boasts, "The self-assured stage presence, the laissezfaire good looks, and that unbelievable voice all make Feist seem larger than life..."

NEW YOUNG PONY CLUB
Listen to "Ice Cream"
The UK's NEW YOUNG PONY CLUB has done more than perhaps would be reasonably expected of a great singles band: they've made a great album, Fantastic Playroom. Alternatingly literate, funny, sad, just-weird-enough, crazy, sexy and cool to boot (sometimes dance-based music forgets it's allowed to be all these things), it's one of the year's best albums. Ultimately, the band has made good on their hopes: to put the fun back in music, and get people dancing.

THE SUBMARINES
Listen to "You, Me & The Bourgeoisie"
John Dragonetti and Blake Hazard are THE SUBMARINES. The two moved out west to seek adventure, but sadly parted on a bleak November day. They wrote songs, each in their own place, about their dismay and unhappiness without the other. When they heard them--together--it all made sense. Having realized this, they became The Submarines. The band's much-anticipated new album, Honeysuckle Weeks, will be released in May. Here's a track from it...

ALBERTA CROSS
Listen to "Hard Breaks"
The Thief & The Heartbreaker is ALBERTA CROSS's self-produced debut, a collection of 7 heartbreaking tales that sound as fresh as they do timeless. The EP is also notable for introducing the arrestingly plaintive and distinctive vocals of Petter Ericson Stakee and an accomplished band completed by Terry Wolfers, Petter's brother John Alexander Ericson (a solo artist in his own right) on organ, and Seb Sternberg on drums.

CHARLOTTE SOMETIMES
Listen to "How I Could Just Kill A Man"
CHARLOTTE SOMETIMES' enchanting debut full-length, Waves and the Both of Us, is a product of insomnia, airplanes, and bodies of water, not to mention countless hours of daydreaming to the mesmerizing sounds of Billie Holiday, the Everly Brothers, Jeff Buckley, and Fiona Apple, among others. As a performer, she's flippant and seductive, and as a songwriter she gravitates toward the shadier elements in life.

LOS CAMPESINOS!
Listen to "Death To Los Campesinos!"
Since releasing their debut album, Hold On Now, Youngster, Welsh co-ed rockers LOS CAMPESINOS! have made a big splash in international indie rock circles. And it's no mystery why: youthful enthusiasm of this caliber comes along but once in a blue moon. The song "You! Me! Dancing!" pretty much sums it up.

SANDRINE
Listen to "Where Do We Go"
Australian-born SANDRINE has a voice wise beyond her years: warm in tone, hopeful in feel, and infused with a natural sensuality. Her North American debut album, Dark Fades Into The Light, is the end result of a musical, emotional and geographical journey that took her from the rugged Blue Mountain range of her homeland to the Catskills outside of Woodstock, NY.

THE VIRGINS
Listen to "Rich Girls"
For their third show ever, NYC's THE VIRGINS took Paris by storm, performing at designer Agnes B's Fashion Week party alongside Patti Smith and Sonic Youth. The band's connection to New York's art scene is apparent in the artwork to their recently released self-titled debut, which features design and photography from Dan Colen and Terry Richardson.

WHAT MADE...
Listen to "Sultan"
WHAT MADE MILWAUKEE FAMOUS may unashamedly wear their love of pop on their sleeves, but that new wave sheen is stretched taut over a muscular frame of sweaty rock. And although sonically polished, the music maintains just enough rough edges to keep things interesting. The band's new album, What Doesn't Kill Us, was recently released on Barsuk Records.
